Ready to go :) |
Sadly, there's no actual envelope generator--just the concept (as far as I know--someone correct me if I'm wrong!). My sister made one to welcome her boyfriend home, which was cute and inspired me to make one of my own.
I took screen grabs of the world map and I cobbled together several different screen grab images to make an image large enough to cover the entire envelope pattern. Since Google doesn't give directions for transatlantic trips, I added in the flight path: Lisbon to London to Seattle. Google will, however, put the start and end markers on the map, so that saved me the extra step of finding the cities in my patchwork map and making markers.
I used the A2 the envelope pattern from: http://www.allcrafts.net/cards/envelopes.htm
I placed the pdf in an InDesign doc, created lines over the pattern and deleted the pattern. This allowed for me to place in the jpeg and move it around so I could center map on the envelope. It was a little time consuming to put together the map, since the distance traveled was so far. The map had to be really large to accommodate the route traveled and cover the rest of the envelope. It probably would have been easier to only put the map on the front but maybe I'll do that for next time.
